Is this just a joke?

The subtitles are meant to be funny. The debrief is not. It cites your own messages, gives one honest recommendation, and is allowed to say “walk away” when that is the real answer. It is funny and useful, not funny instead of useful.

Will it just tell me what I want to hear?

No. That is the entire point of the name. It reads “no” honestly, and it will not write messages designed to wear someone down. If the thread already gave you an answer, it says so.
